Actress Emma Watson is modelling for ethical fashion brand People Tree for another season.
Fair Trade champions People Tree have just released pics of the Harry Potter starlet posing for the second collection of pieces that Emma has contributed to.
Already in stores, the range features everything from pretty dresses and slouchy T-shirts to cool checked shirts and chunky knits, all made, of course, from Fair Trade fabrics.
Emma hasn’t designed the collection but she has taken her role as collaborator very seriously. She even accompanied People Tree’s founder, Safia Minney, on a trip to Bangladesh where she got to see the difference between factories in the slums and the Fair Trade factories where the label makes its clothes. ‘Having seen the slums in Dhaka and the conditions in which these people live and work to produce ‘fast fashion’, I would say to those people that this is not the way we should be making clothes in the modern world,’ she said. ‘These workers have no rights and work every hour of the day just to feed their families. Fair Trade gives families the option to stay together, rather than one or both parents having to move to cities, and they are paid a fair wage. It empowers people and doesn’t take away their dignity.’
It’s not the only ethical clothing project that Emma is involved in – she’s also working on an organic clothing range with Alberta Ferretti which is set to make its debut in the coming months.
Blake Lively for Chanel
Blake Lively is on a roll! The fashion beauty, who already has a Christian Louboutin shoe named after her, has been tapped to front Chanel’s new Mademoiselle handbag line, reports WWD.
“She’s a kind of American dream girl” says designer Karl Lagerfeld of the French design house’s newest face.
The blonde beauty, who spent much of her time in Paris last July mingling with fashion royalty during the couture shows, was photographed by the designer himself at Chanel’s Rue Cambon headquarters for the new campaign. For the actress, being photographed in the historic apartment where Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel once showed her collections was humbling.
“A dream come true is an understatement. I can say that I feel like the happiest, luckiest girl around.”
Lively, whose ads are slated to run in April magazines, joins an elite club of stars who have posed for the house of Chanel, including Diane Kruger, Lily Allen and Vanessa Paradis.
“Though I am the face of [the handbag], I will carry it like every girl,” Lively said.
“I will always feel it’s more than just a purse. It’s a quilted case full of lipstick, love letters and the dreams and possibilities that I have always felt every time I see that beautiful ‘CC.’”

I think it can be more interesting!
On kissing Kristen Stewart in The Runaways: ” It’s out of the way, and it was with my friend and a girl – no pressure. It was not something Cherie [Currie] and Joan [Jett] ever really spoke about, and that’s how it was filmed – as not that big of a deal.”
On growing up in the business: “When you start out young, people get really attached to who you are at 6 years old. I hope that The Runaways was kind of a moment to be like, ‘You know, I’m not that young little girl anymore, but I’m still not all grown up, either.”
Angelina Jolie is close to joining the cast of Ridley Scott‘s Gucci, a drama about intrigue in high fashion. Scott wants Jolie to play Patrizia Reggiano, the woman sentenced to 29 years in prison for plotting the murder of her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci.
It’s not yet written, but the script will focus on the family in the seventies and eighties when it was pulling in half a billion dollars annually. After an inter-family power struggle that ends with Maurizio coming out on top, things go downhill until he’s eventually murdered. Scott is still looking for his Maurizio and has approached Leonardo DiCaprio, who remains unattached. If Scott seems to be in a hurry, it’s for fear a Chinese film company will rip off the idea and produce a version that looks a lot like his, only to have it fall apart as soon as its seams are strained. Cheap counterfeits!
We just received an invite to preview a juniors’ line for JCPenney called Olsenboye by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. We can’t be sure of too many details at the moment, but the flyer lists Olsenboye.com as the line’s website.
The site doesn’t appear to be up yet. But if the line is in previews now, it must be slated for a spring launch. The Olsens join the elite ranks of fellow JCPenney designers Kimora Lee Simmons and Charlotte Ronson. If the line is like an affordable version of the Row or Elizabeth & James, JCPenney just got a whole lot cooler. Stay tuned for more details.
Beyonce Knowles Cadillac Records premiere in NY
Yeah, we all have bad days sometimes. It gets to be even more difficult when you’re a girl, as you can have a bad hair day, a bad style day, or a hairy armpits day. December 1 was Beyoncé Knowles’ day of joining hairy armpits hall of shame.
