Jean Paul Gaultier lived up to his showman’s reputation again at Paris Couture Week July 8. For his latest collection he staged a cinematic spectacle. Each area of the auditorium was named after a film studio, girls handed out ice creams and the show began with the Twentieth Century Fox fanfare.

In case the audience members were still in any doubt about the celluloid concept, the outfits were also named after films and actresses. Many of these interpretations were about as subtle – and often as raunchy – as Jane Russell’s décolletage in The Outlaw, but they were intentionally entertaining.

The first look, named after the film Le Mepris, consisted of a leather trenchcoat and seamed stockings worn by pouting model Lara Stone, who had her blonde hair in a beehive and lashings of eyeliner just like the film’s star Brigitte Bardot. Other ensembles included a Battleship Potemkin look, which consisted of quilted taffeta sailor trousers and a cropped pea coat, and a futuristic gold leather corset dubbed Barbarella and made from 3D dodecahedron panels.

Other touches of humour came from trimmings that resembled outstretched rolls of film, and the final wedding dress – a tiny gold lace tiered confection worn with visible white stockings – felt like more of a luxe take on the chorus line look than something suited to the altar. Behind all the theatricality and overt sexuality however, there was plenty of the fine tailoring and sensual rendering of Parisian classics that captivates Gaultier’s clients. He showed wide masculine suit trousers and dresses with trench detailing, and various takes on Le Smoking, including a sleeveless leather tuxedo jacket with sequinned lapels.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel show, late the previous evening, also played with iconic imagery of its own – several giant white Chanel No. 5 bottles formed the centrepiece of the catwalk.

It was a monolithic message, and the show’s recurring motifs were accordingly straightforward. There was a play on proportion between short and long, and a tailcoat-like panel appeared at the back of numerous tweed or silk dresses and jackets, often longer than the rest of the garment. On some of the coats the straight flap seemed like an afterthought, but on evening dresses it combined grandeur and a less formal coquettishness simultaneously.

A black velvet dress flecked with sequins featuring a short bell-shaped skirt over a long sheer net was a highlight. After a peal of bells, the show was closed by a bridal mini-dress with a tutu-like skirt and grand ruffled train.

Tattoo t-shirt guru Christian Audigier has revealed he doesn’t like Victoria Beckham’s fashion designs and considers them “very simple.”

I like her, she is a nice girl, but she is not completely my style,” the designer said in the interview. “I have seen some of her designs – they are very simple. It’s difficult for an artist or a singer to enter into the world of fashion.”

Being pretty harsh in his fashion judgments, Christina sees the objective reality of singers/ actors-turned-designers these days. They simply use their names to help sell, he adds.

Cameron Diaz is in discussions to appear alongside comic Seth Rogen in Green Hornet, in theaters July 9, 2010.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Cam is in “early talks” for the role of the female lead in the latest theatrical superhero movie.

This wouldn’t Cameron’s first time sharing the screen with a green-faced –in fact, the actress made her Hollywood debut as Tina Carlyle in 1994’s The Mask, alongside. Nowadays, Cameron is best known for lending animated ogre Princess Fiona in the Shrek film franchise.

YOU may not recognize Jamie Dornan’s face, but his butt might look familiar.

That was my bum,” Dornan proudly says of his 2004 Calvin Klein jeans billboard, which was dismantled from Houston Street following public outcry over the image of model Natalia Vodianova biting his ass (not to be confused with the most recent orgasmic Calvin Klein jeans ad pulled from Lafayette Street).

Jamie’s face and fanny have made the 27-year-old a wonder boy of sorts; he’s launched a thousand ad campaigns, including his latest for CK Free, CK jeans and Calvin Klein underwear, in which he’s writhing around — half-clad and soaking wet — with Eva Mendes.

Tough life, huh?

With the swagger of a young Jude Law, a natural self-effacing London charm and subtle Northern Irish drawl, Dornan’s also charmed a slew of starlets — he’s been linked to actresses such as Keira Knightley, Mischa Barton and Sienna Miller — and flirted with the silver screen, most notably as the rogue Swede in “Marie Antoinette.”

And despite seven years of vamping for the camera, Dornan seems to be in deep denial about his burgeoning male-supermodel-dom.

I have no interest in being a model; I don’t consider myself a model in any way,” says the Belfast-born, 5-foot-11 hunk who just spent three days in Milan during Men’s Fashion Week “being” and doing model-like things (a sexy 12-page Korean Elle photo shoot, launching CK Free, being dressed every day by the Calvin Klein team, sitting front row at the Calvin Klein fashion show, and dining and sipping cocktails and champagne with the world’s top men’s fashion editors).

“I’ve never done a catwalk. I went to Milan [in 2002] to do the runways, and I didn’t get any,” says Dornan. “I just got really badly bitten by mosquitoes.”

Alas, even bugs find him irresistible.

I wanted to be an actor, and this happened,” he adds. “Acting is still very much my focus, but there is quite a massive stigma attached to someone who’s modeled as much [as I have].”

Despite his lucrative and exclusive contract with Calvin Klein, Dornan takes this struggling-actor thing so seriously that, discontent with his life of relative luxury in a two-bedroom West London flat, he went and got himself a roommate.

I’m single, so I like the idea of going home and knowing someone’s going to be there,” says Dornan of rooming with a friend.

A chiseled, oft-lathered-up model with an accent who wants someone to come home to? The line forms here, ladies.

Our handbags are full of rubbish- it’s official. New research has confirmed what most of us have suspected for years.

Other than the usual suspects, such as purses and keys, there were a few unusual objects in the handbag mix, like detachable car CD players and screwdrivers for repairing glasses.

Despite this, 92% of these items weren’t seen as being useful by the 1,300 women surveyed and over half of respondents (57%) admitted they only use 1-5 of those items on a regular basis.

The same five items were also voted the most useful: purse, keys, phone, pack of tissues and a pen and notebook – all of which featured higher than makeup- in the survey carried out by Kleenex.

TV psychologist Anjula Mutanda comments: “This research shows that whilst we recognise that we don’t need all these things cluttering up our handbags we do still tend to cling on to objects “just in case” – we are nurturers by nature and therefore prepare accordingly. All we really need though is just five essential items, as identified in the research, that will actually have a use on a day-to-day basis when we are out and about

“What is interesting, however, is that it’s clear from the research that today’s women are demanding both fashion and function from their handbags and the products they put in them. That suggests that we’re unwilling to compromise – basically we want it all in one handbag fix: stylish must-haves that are also useful.”

This notion is confirmed by the fact that over half (51%) of women said they wouldn’t buy something just because it looks good and a further 1 in 5 said that they liked to buy things that look stylish.

Anjula’s top tips on de-cluttering your handbag:

* Choose a bag that fits with your lifestyle and with what you need, nothing much more
* Clear out your handbag when you get in every night to rid it of those unnecessary items – only carry the essentials
* Choose a purse that does the job and no more – you don’t need a brick!
* Kick out unnecessary keys and hefty key chains

* Try weighing your things to see how realistic you are being. If they are too heavy then you could consider using compact versions wherever possible: smaller purses, a smaller notebook, a mini-sized pocket pack of tissues etc

Belts are frequently a forgotten accessory. We only think about them if our pants get loose (ha, when does that happen?) or if your dress or ensemble came with a belt already included. I know I for one, always forget about my belts and I actually have a pretty sweet collection.

So that got me thinking about how I could incorporate belts into my daily outfits without a lot of hassle.

Wide belts are probably the easiest to wear. You can just throw one on top of a tunic, button down top, sweater, long tank top, a-line dress and the list goes on.

If you have an hourglass or pear shaped body, adding a wide belt to your outfit can accentuate your tiny waist and look really sexy and figure-flattering.

If you have a round or apple shaped body, you may want to avoid wearing a belt right at your waist. If you have large breasts, a wide belt might go up under your breasts and accentuate their size even more. Round shaped women or plus size gals with most of their weight around the middle should avoid wearing belts at their waistline. Only wear wide belts if your waistline is at least 1 or more inches smaller than your hips and or thighs.

If you’ve got a belly, do NOT wear a low-slung belt! It only makes it worse. Belts emphasize width so only wear belts on the smallest part!

Everyone knows that an hourglass shape is the most desirable of all body shapes and a wide belt on top of whatever you are wearing is a great way to fake the body you’re after. It really emphasizes the hourglass shape, even if you don’t have one. A great little trick for skinny gals with no curves!

Paris Hilton and Jessica Alba (seen above) frequently wear wide belts and really know how to rock the look. Take cues from them for outfit ideas.
