Matthew Williamson to Do H&M Collection

November 25, 2008 at 10:50 am (Fashion) (, )

williamson_250x375
You probably didn’t get a piece of H&M’s Comme des Garçons line. But you have a better shot at getting a piece of the chain’s next designer collaboration with Matthew Williamson, which includes two shipments, a coveted one-off rarity. Known for mixing bright prints, Williamson’s women’s collection will hit a select 200 stores April 23.

A second delivery will hit all 1,700 H&M stores in May and include women’s and menswear. The collaboration marks Williamson’s first foray into men’s clothes. The designer, who recently split from Emilio Pucci to focus on his own label, is opening his first U.S. flagship in the meatpacking district early next year.

The announcement of the H&M line is a great way to drum up excitement for his U.S. expansion. Not to mention a great way to get people to buy his clothes in this crappy economic time.

Miss Minogue unveils weird new outfits

November 23, 2008 at 10:31 am (Fashion) ()

Kylie Minogue has donned a pair of rubber gloves and is surrounded by men in welder’s masks for a bizarre dance routine.

The elfin singer is known for her dazzling costumes on stage — but the
theme of this show was somewhat hard for the baffled Buenos Aires audience to grasp during the Argentinian leg of her KylieX2008 tour.

Let’s hope she picks a more sensible outfit for the Brits next year.

It was announced yesterday that the Aussie singer is set to host the bash in February.

If these images are anything to go by, the singer won’t disappoint.

Kylie, 40, sported a Grecian-style black and gold dress for one of her songs as her matching dancers carried the diva around the stage.

A patriotic Kylie later made sure to show off her heritage,  waving an Australian flag during the performance.

how to find the perfect white shirt

November 20, 2008 at 11:13 am (Fashion) (, , )

It’s odd that the perfect white shirt should be so hard to find. Walk into any high street chain and there are lots of them – it’s just that to the picky eye there’s something just a little bit wrong with most of them.

gap-designer-white-shirt

Doing something simple well isn’t easy. Everything needs to come together: it needs fine cotton neither too thin nor too thick, a brilliant cut, great stitching, good buttons, perfect cuffs and sleeve length; and on top of all that, the best require a bit of flair. Which is why, if you were to do the white shirt equivalent of a blind wine tasting – that is, line up a big range with the labels ripped out – you’d nearly always find that the ones you really, really lusted after were made by the masters: Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons, Jil Sander in the old days, Martin Margiela, Viktor & Rolf (I still lust after one of theirs that I failed to buy a few seasons ago – simple but with an asymmetrical cross-over front and a gorgeous collar). You don’t need telling that none of these come cheap.

Whenever I think of the perfect white shirt, I always think of that lanky aristocratic French model, Inès de la Fressange, the one-time muse of Karl Lagerfeld, who had a way with white shirts – although, if you had a face and a figure like hers, it would be hard not to. She wore them strict and straight; on her they looked classier than any couture number. If you want to see how it’s done, check her out on YouTube, where she’s wearing one that, atypically, has a few frills, teamed with jeans and heels. That’s how it’s done if you’re a jeans-and-heels kind of girl. She also used to tuck them into pencil skirts – very Miss Moneypenny – and was immediately transformed into the kind of secretary whom every man dreamt of having.

If you’re going to do that, you need to find one that is cut slim so that it doesn’t bulk out the skirt, and pull it together with a gorgeous big belt. Here the high street chains have come into their own. They may not have the perfection of detail that the starrier masters go in for, but they’re a whole lot friendlier on the purse and there are plenty of neatly cut versions around.

Twilight Fashion

November 19, 2008 at 1:46 am (Fashion) (, , )

The much-anticipated Twilight movie—based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer—will bring the enthralling love story of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) to the big screen. With expectations high, costume designer Wendy Chuck took on the challenge of giving the characters the right look in the film.

My inspiration came mostly from the book and I tried to recreate in my minds eye what I saw when I read it,” she says. Their looks, because of the budget for the film are all from a mix of stores like Loehmann’s, Nordstrom Rack, Internet outlets and local Portland, OR, shops. “The only high-end item was Edward’s Gucci jacket for the prom,” she says.

A peak into Forks High School reveals Emmett (Kellan Lutz), Rosalie (Nikki Reed), Alice (Ashley Greene) and Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) as perpetual teenagers trying to fit in despite their unique beauty and mysterious connection with each other.

“Alice is the kooky, artistic one in the book so there’s a lot that’s inspired by vintage,” says Chuck. “I used a lot from G-Star for Jasper, he’s wearing a G-star jacket and Levi’s and always has Western boots on.”

Katy Perry bio

November 18, 2008 at 10:30 am (Popular people) ()

That’s interesting Katy Perry’s bio.

83509548JD065_MTV_Europe_Mu

Sassy and savvy, confident and feisty, bright and unpredictable, smart and multi-talented, sarcastic and sensitive, Katy Perry can be different but what is important is that she’s always sincere in everything she does. Katy Perry combines sass and spunk, the cheeky, club-ready pop music of Lily Allen with the commercial pop/rock of Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morissette adding provocative but humorous texts to get what we see topping chart lists everywhere – unique Katy Perry sound. “I don’t care who I’m compared to as long as people listen to the music,” Perry says. Her songs are reflection of her life experience and her emotions, it’s all in there. Love her or hate her, but put music first, that’s all Katy Perry wants.

Victoria Beckham in green

November 15, 2008 at 1:38 am (Fashion) ()

Victoria Beckham was spotted strolling around The Grove in West Hollywood on Tuesday, November 11, with son Cruz. Adorable!

victoria-beckham1

While little Cruz decided to play dress up for his outing, Victoria (of course) used the opportunity to strut her fashionable stuff. Wearing a hunter green frock  with black suede Louboutin booties and her trademark oversized sunglasses (I love the frames of Nour’s Moman Sunglasses in Street), she finished off her look with a huge black hobo bag and her pixie cut. Simple yet elegant, Victoria continues to knock ‘em out of the park with her killer style choices.

In other Beckham news, it seems that the rumor is beginning to spread that Posh is planning to move to Milan while David is there, to keep a watchful eye on him. A source tells The Daily Star,

“Victoria wasn’t thinking of going to Milan with David, but when stories appeared about her letting him go there on his own, there were lots of comments about how foolish she was being.” Victoria’s rep is now speaking out, saying,

“She was always planning on splitting her time between Milan and LA. She’s not going to uproot her three sons but was always planning on being in Europe in January and February for the fashion shows.” Gotta love how Posh plans her time around the fashion world!
